John Robert Lanigan the son of Michael and Marie (Doebber) Lanigan was born January 30, 1953 in Alexandria, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm near Alexandria and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He attended country school not far from home and then graduated from Jefferson High School in Alexandria. John furthered his education at Alexandria Technical College for farm mechanics.
On November 9, 1979 John was united in marriage to Theresa Nygaard at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in rural Lowry. This marriage was blessed with four children. The couple made their home on the family farm in Alexandria before moving to their own farm west of Villard. They were members at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Villard.
John was a hard working dedicated farmer his entire life. He took great pride in caring for his cows and crops. He enjoyed Allis-Chalmers tractors especially his D14 and his pride and joy, the One Ninety. He enjoyed going to thrashing bees and listening to oldies country music. Many times he could be heard singing “Cadillac Man” while milking. John loved his family especially his grandchildren. He loved showing them how the farm worked and all the aspects of farm living. He will be remembered as a kind, hard working and loving son, husband, dad, father-in-law, papa, brother and friend.
John is survived by his parents, Mike and Marie Lanigan of Alexandria; wife of 31 years, Theresa Lanigan; sons, Jesse (special friend Tori Braaten) Lanigan and Justin Lanigan both of Glenwood; daughter, Jodi (Tony) Schoumaker of Belgrade; two grandchildren, Abbey and Coby Schoumaker; sisters, Cindy (Duey) Jantzen, Marilyn (Steve) Honebrink, and Pat (Tom) Heidelberger; brothers, Lyle (Carol) Lanigan, Jerry (LuAnn) Lanigan and Kevin (Barb) Lanigan; many nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
