Adeline was born in Douglas County, Holmes City Township on the family farm. She was the youngest of six children born to Oscar and Olive (Christenson) Nygaard. She was baptized and confirmed at Trysil Lutheran Church. She graduated from Kensington High School. Adeline then moved to Minneapolis and was employed by Northwestern Life Insurance Company. Adeline met her husband Herbert while they were singing in the church choir. They were married on April 7, 1951, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. In the fall of 1955, they purchased Casto’s Resort and renamed it Berg’s Resort on Lake Le Homme Dieu, where they continue to reside. Adeline and Herbert have run the resort for 51 years with their four children. At this point, the family is continuing their heritage, keeping the resort running and open for business.
Adeline loved and was loved by her family and friends. She enjoyed entertaining and playing games, fishing with her family, spending time with her resort customers / friends, quilting, Sons of Norway and her winters in Florida with the great friendships they had there. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Alexandria and attended Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Winter Haven, Florida. In the past she enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Release Time and Sunday School, participating in Bible studies and Dorcas.
Adeline is survived by her husband Herbert and their four children: daughter, Denise (Kevin) Strand of Circle Pines, sons: Brian (Bernice) Berg of Alexandria, Gary Berg of Fridley, and Kevin (Julie) Berg of Ames, iowa, 7 grandchildren: Aaron Berg, Sarah (Shane) Olson; Laura and Kyle Strand; Thomas, Daniel and Jennifer Berg and multiple nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three sisters: Edith Anderson of Park Rapids, Sylvia Haabala of Farwell, and Palma (Orvis) Berg of Wisconsin.
