Martha H.* Grondahl

Martha H. Grondahl passed away at her home near Holmes City Sunday, December 15th after an illness of one week.

The deceased was born in Trysil, Osterdalen, Norway, August 16, 1856, where she grew into womanhood and was there united in marriage to Halvor E. Grondahl on November 8, 1878. To this union four children were born.

They came to this country in the year 1881 and settled in Pope county where they resided until the year 1900 when they moved to Douglas county to a farm near Holmes City which has since been their home.

Her husband preceded her in death June 5, 1923, also one daughter, Mrs. N.J. Silk of Thief River Falls who passed away on April 30, 1930.

Three children survive her; Mrs. M. Mortenson, Lowry; Martin and Henry Grondahl at home. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Ole Christenson of Lignite, N.D., Bertha Hammeren of Berg, N.D., also eight grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1 o’clock from the home and 2 o’clock at Trysil church, of which she has been a faithful member. Rev. J.G. Vaage officiated. Interment was made in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were Henry Femrite, Henry Myhr, Halvor Soberg, Emil Gulbranson, Wm. Guiles and Jack Johnson.
