Ensign Sigurd Lindseth, only son of pastor and wife S.J. Lindseth, Ashland, WI, perished on his ship in the Pacific on 19 January, resulting in the information received by his parents from the navy department__ Sigurd Lindseth was born in Silverton, OR, 28 August 1923. Moved with his parents to Fargo, ND, in 1927 and a year later to Borup, MN, where he graduated from high school in 1941. Attended Concordia in Moorhead, MN for 2 years, until he was called into military service in July 1943, first at Minot, ND, later at Asbury Park, NJ and at Cornell University. Engsign Lindseth was married to Caryl Louise Johnson on 2 October 1944 and went overseas from San Francisco two weeks later.

Services for Ens. Lindseth At Trysil Church Monday
Remains of War Hero Scheduled to Arrive in Alexandria Saturday

The remains of Ens. H.M. Lindseth, who was killed while serving with the Navy in the harbor at Guam Jan. 19, 1945, will arrive shortly after noon at the Great Northern station in Alexandria, according to a telegram received Tuesday. His casket is being accompanied by a military escort and will be met at the train here by an escort of former service men.

His remains will be taken to the Anderson Funeral Home where short services will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. Services also will be held at the Trysil church, Farwell, and final interment will be made in the Trysil cemetery. Rev. V.C. Boe of Moorhead and Rev. M.E. Ulring of Farwell will conduct the service. Pallbearers will be Martin, Ruben, Harold, Clifton and Lawrence Myhr and Bennet Soberg.

Father of the deceased war hero is Rev. S.J. Lindseth of Ashland, Wisc. Rev. Lindseth served the Trysil Lutheran church in Holmes City for several years and while there was married to Miss Hulda Myhr of Holmes City.

Ens. Sigurd H.M. Lindseth was born in Silverton, Ore., Aug 28, 1923. He came to Fargo, N. Dak, with his parents in 1927. Later he moved with his parents to Borup, Minn., where he graduated from high school in 1941.

While in high school he was prominent in basket ball, football, chorus, band and forensics. He was president of the freshman and sophomore classes and editor of the senior yearbook. He attended Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn. for two years and was a member of the choir, band, Alpha Phi Gamma national literary fraternity and Mondomin society. He also played freshman football.

Enlisting in the naval V-19 program in December, 1942, while a sophomore at Concordia college, he was called to active duty on July 1, 1943, and trained at Minot, N.D State Teachers college, Asbury Park, and Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, where he was commissioned on Sept. 20, 1944.

He was married to Caryl Johnson, Wheaton, Minn., Oct 2, 1944 and left San Francisco for sea duty Oct 13, 1944.

Besides his widow he is survived by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. S.J. Lindseth, Ashland, Wis. and one sister, Mrs. Allen R. Torkelson, Washburn, Wis.
