Funeral Services Held June 24 For Pastor Linseth
Pastor S.J. Linseth was born in Romasdalen, Norway. He immigrated to the United States in 1903. After working in the Farwell, Minn. area, he attended Augusta Academy in Canton, S.D., St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., and the United Lutheran Seminary in St. Paul. He completed his seminary training and was ordained in 1914. He was married to Helga Myhr on June 17, 1914.
He served pastorates in Farwell, Minn.; Wenatchee, Wash.; Summit, S.D.; Silverton, Ore.; Borup, Minn.; and Ashland, Wis. After his retirement he served as an associate and visiting pastor in Duluth, Cloquet and Fargo, N.D
His death came as the result of a cerebral hemorrhage suffered on June 15 and he died at the Douglas County hospital on June 20, having reached the age of 85 years, 2 months and 26 days.
He is survived by his wfe, Helga; one daughter, Helen (Mrs. Allen Torkelson) of Waupaca, Wis., seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Gunnar, who resides in Norway, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and sisters and six children.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. from First Lutheran church in Alexandria, Minn., on Monday, June 24, 1968, Pastors P.G. Westby, H.S. Strand, G.W. Tolo and V. Holte officiating. Interment was in Trysil cemetery at Holmes City, Minn.
Pallbearers were: Jon Torkelson, Harold Myhr, Ramon Torkelson, Lynn Torkelson, Keven Torkelson and Reuben Myhr.
Harold Bergby, accompanied by Mrs. M. Midboe, sang “Den Store Hvide Flok”. Lynn Torkelson sang “Come Ye Blessed.”
Pastor Sigurd Julius Linseth was very active in the service of the Church until he reached the age of 83. Blessed be his memory.
