Marcus Paul Reece was born October 29, 1918, in Madelia, MN, the son of Norwegian immigrant Rev. Andrew and Alberta (Sogaarden) Reece. He grew up and went to school in Alberta, MN and Idyllwild, CA, and later moved to Minneapolis where he graduated from Central High School in 1938. Following high school he attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. Later he returned to the home farm in Farwell, MN
On July 3, 1953, Marcus was united in marriage to Rebekah Soberg in Minneapolis where the couple made their home. The couple moved back to the home farm near Farwell in 1960. They were blessed with eight children. In 1982, Marcus retired from farming, and he and Rebekah continued to live on the farm.
Community service was important to Marcus. He served on numerous boards including Trysil-Bethesda Cemetery, and school and farm boards. Marcus was a faithful member of the Lakeland United Pentecostal Church in Alexandria.
Marcus enjoyed fishing, and deer and duck hunting. He continued to hunt deer throughout his later years. The family took many vacations together, traveling throughout the USA and Canada. Trips to Bible camps were annual excursions. Family and church were very important to him.
Marcus will be remembered for his hospitality. His house was always open to friends and family. Courtesy was extended to all who walked through his door.
On Wednesday, December 26, 2007, Marcus died in his home at the age of 89 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Andrew and Alberta Reece; two brothers, Oliver Reece and Leif Reece; one sister, Agnes Reece; and one daughter-in-law, Jeanette Reece. Marcus is survived by his wife, Rebekah of Farwell; six sons, Paul (Ronita) Reece of Farwell, David Reece of Lowry, Rev. Joseph (Anne) Reece of Moose Lake, James (Debbie) Reece of Alexandria, Philip (Michele) Reece of East Gull Lake, and Benjamin (Debra) Reece of St. Paul; two daughters, Martha (Rev. Scott) Taylor of Duluth, and Mary Beth (Bart) Ashworth of Anoka; twenty-five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one first cousin, Odella Baak.
