Mrs. Amund Mattson Dead
On the morning of May 8th there closed the life of one of the most well known pioneer resdients of Douglas county, Mrs. Amund Mattson. The deceased was born Sept 29, 1829 at Ascarsberg, Sweden and her life was one of beautiful consecration having an unfailing faith in God and His word. It was one of the keenest pleasures of her life to work and give, her charities being personally conducted. She was laid to rest May 10 in Trysil cemetery beside her husband who preceded her in death in 1909. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G.M. Rundhaug of Alexandria who gave a very impressive sermon. The funeral was largely attended by many friends who came to pay the last tribute to the departed one. She is survived by four daughters, all of whom were present at the funeral services.
The heavenly chorus was singing the song of soul redeemed; a mighty throng before the throne their crowns cast down, and a joyous cry of “Worthy the Lamb” ascended on high when the message came, to the throne make way, a soul beloved comes home today.
Our loved one the call from the sky had heard
“Twas the Master’s voice and His loving word.
“Twas child come home, you shall see my face
And close by my side you shall have a place.
Earth’s toils are over and now for thee, remains an eternity here with me, of rest at home.
Do we grieve that at length she has reached her home?
Do we wish for her longer here to roam?
Nay, Nay, we rejoince in her joy, for she sees
The Lord of the harvest and many sheaves she layest at His feet; and her guerdon of praise,
She has surely won; Child of my love, well done, well done.
