Thorgal Nordby of Holmes City township passed peacefully away at his home there Tuesday forenoon. He has been in poor health for the past ten years, suffering first from what was probably catarrhal trouble which developed into tuberculoses. During this time he has been very patient and uncomplaining doing what he could to make it easier for those about him. He maintained his mental faculties until the last thanking Mrs. Lobeck for her greetings to him just a few minutes before he died.
Mr. Nordby was born in Trysil, Norway, fifty-three years ago. He came to this country in 1883, when about twenty-one years of age. He first came to Douglas County but after a time went to Cass County, N.D., where he married Miss Johanna Grambo of that place. They lived there for a few years and about twenty years ago returned to Douglas County buying the farm in Holmes City where he has since made his home.
Mr. Nordby was a conscientious, painstaking, industrious man. He loved to work and even after becoming so weak he could not be out of bed, he employed himself carving from wood in which craft he was quite a genius. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and an adopted daughter, Miss Constance Peterson, and three sisters, Mrs. O.J. Anderson of Hallock, Mrs. P.A. Daly of Sebeka, and Mrs. E.E. Lobeck of this place; two brothers, H.P. Nordby of Wildwood, Minn., and P. Nordby of Holmes City; also two half-sisters, Mrs. E. Simonson of Lowry and Mrs. Skjerstad of Trysil, Norway.
The funeral will be Saturday.
Surnames: Nordby.
