Muriel Paulson Omland was born on July 30, 1913, the daughter of Hans and Ida Paulson in Storden, Minnesota. She died on Friday, April 25, 2008, at the Prairie Senior Cottages, where she has resided since September of 2001.
Muriel was married to Oliver Omland at Trysil Lutheran Church, in rural Farwell, Minnesota on August 24, 1932. The couple farmed near Holmes City, Minnesota until Oliver’s death in 1962. She then moved to Alexandria where she supported her four children still remaining at home by cooking at the hospital and later in the school district.
Muriel had a broad range of interests beyond raising a family and being a homemaker. She loved to sew and make quilts. She helped make quilts at First Lutheran for many years. She also had a large garden and loved to tend to her flowers. After she retired she was able to do some traveling, the major trip was to Norway which she enjoyed very much.
Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, sister, daughter, grandson and a great granddaughter.
She is survived by six children: LeRoy and wife, Naomie Omland of Blue Earth, MN, Carolyn & husband John Loken of Alexandria, Orville & wife Patricia Omland of Mesa, AZ, Pauline & husband Jon Inwards of Oronoco, MN, Nancy & husband, Lowell Johnson of Bloomington, MN, Joyce & husband Dennis Kamstra of Cambridge, MN; 21 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren. 2 great great grandchildren; brother, Irvin & wife Ruth Paulson; sisters: Fern & husband Harry Halstead, Ada Anderson of Alexandria; 5 nephews and 8 nieces.
Funeral services were April 29, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. John Peshek officiating.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, David Nelson, Dan Nelson, Steve Loken, Jeff Loken, Brian Omland, Paul Omland, Greg Kamstra and Mark Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Deb Nelson, Diane Nelson, Denise Maxa, Donna Walker, Pam Omland, Mary Omland, Barb Beyer, Janet Inwards, Karen Inwards, Lonna Inwards, Amy Johnson, Libby Johnson and Jenny Kamstra.
