Mr Soberg was born in Trysil, Norway, March 20th, 1833. There he grew up to manhood and on Novermber 26th, 1856 married Miss Pernilla Halvorsdatter Solund who died about nine years ago. To this union were born Per Soberg, Halvor O, Mrs Germund Hanson all of Homes City town, Mrs Bertine Stoa, who died in Holmes City some years ago, Ole Soberg, Mrs H Johnson and Mrs Caroline Mattson all of North Dakota. These were all at home to attend the funeral.
About four years ago he married Dorothea Wolf who now survives. Beside these are four sisters, Mrs Martha Aasen of Holmes City town, Mrs Pernille Olson, Mrs Christine Sorensen, Mrs A Torgelson all of Norway and one brother, Per Soberg of Lakeville, Dakota county, Minn. This brother and wife were present at his bedside during the last few hours of his life. His two sons of Holmes City also succeeded in arriving a few minutes before death claimed him.
Mr Soberg came to America in 1881 and the following year bought the farm which his son Halvor now owns. Soon after that his family also arrived. He lived on this farm until he moved into Alexandria some years ago where he has since resided and occupied himself with carpentry work and odd jobs to pass his time. He was an industrious and frugal man, living an upright life.
About years ago while building a house he fell from a scaffold and in the fall fractured his hip. He was laid up for months with this and later had to submit to a surgical operation for some internal ailment. He never fully recovered from these shocks. He was conscious until with in a few hours of the end.
The funeral was conducted from the residence at ten o’clock Monday forenoon and the remains taken to Trysil church at Holmes City where they were placed at rest in the cemetery of that congregation. He has been a member of this congregation since arriving in this country. The funeral exercises were conducted by Rev B A Benson.
