PETER O SOBERG
Peter O Soberg, pioneer of Holmes City, was born in Trysil, Norway, September 14, 1857. He passed away at his home in Holmes City township Feb 20th at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 6 days at the time of his death.
He came to America in 1882 with his mother, four sisters and two brothers. His father had preceded him the year before they settled in Holmes City township. He was united in marriage to Inger Westby who passed away in 1892.
Four children were born to this union, three of whom survive. One son, Ole, passed away in 1933. Three surviving children are Jennie, Mrs Gust Johnson of McLaughlin, SD; Marie, Mrs GE Monson, of Argusville, N Dak; and Oscar of Seattle, Wash.
In 1894, he was united in marriage to Olivia Westby, to which union six children were born, one girl having died in infancy. The surviving are Parker, Grant and Harry of Holmes City, Clarence of Barrett and Bennett of Holmes City.
With the exception of fourteen years in Pope county, Mr Soberg has lived his entire life, since coming to America, in Holmes City. He was a faithful member of Trysil church and secretary of same for 20 years.
He also leaves to mourn, one brother, Halver of Holmes City; one sister, Mrs Mina Johnson, of Argusville, N Dak, one sister, Mrs Caroline Mattson of Fargo, No Dak, and 20 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Feb 25th at 1 o’clock from the house and 2 o’clock from the Trysil church, Rev Vaage officiating. Interment will be made in the church cemetery. The pallbearers will be Isaac Isaacson, E O Steen, P T Omland, Peter Sogaarden, Henry Femrite and Henry Myhr.
